About this course

Content

  1. Numerical approximation of solid mechanic equations for structural analyis using the Finite Element Method.
  2. Strength assessment: linear elasticity, vibration, buckling, nonlinear geometry, nonlinear material model, optimization.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

After completed the course, the student shall have knowledge of CAE modeling methods and the theoretic background. The student will have knowledge on the theory of finite element method, mesh convergence studies, validation and verification of finite element models.

Skills: The student shall be able to:

  1. Make 3D CAD models of various structures and structural elements.
  2. Derive an equivalent finite element model, including the appropriate boundary conditions.
  3. Carry out the numerical solution process.
  4. Understand and conclude from the analysis results.

General Competence:

The student will be able to assess any given structural engineering problem (strength analysis), create an equivalent computer model, run a CAE simulation and interpret the results.
