About this course

Content

The course will cover frequently used engineering metals such as structural steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, aluminium and others. Course will be specifically focused on the relationship between fabrication, microstructure and resultant mechanical properties of materials. In Addition to the conventional bulk materials, advanced materials and structures such as lattice architected materials would be of great interest in the course. The students write state-of-the art reports using recent scientific literature on the given topics at the beginning of the course. The report will form the basis for an oral examination.

Learning outcomes

After the course, the students shall be able to

  • Demonstrate knowledge linked to the topics given in the course
  • Discuss and analyse relevant problems and challenges connected to these topics
  • Prepare and present parts of the topics covered in terms of scientific reports and Power-Point presentation for teachers and students

Teaching methods

The course will be given in the Fall semester, every year. The course will be given in terms of study groups and self-study combined with lectures and colloquiums. The curriculum can be adjusted to the individual students depending on wish and need. If there are less than 4 registered students, the course coordinator will decide whether the course will take place.
