About this course
Content
The course will cover different additive manufacturing methods used to produce components from engineering metals and alloys such as stainless steel, nickel base alloys, titanium alloys, aluminium alloys and others. The course will specifically focus on the relationship between additive manufacturing method and the process parameters as well as the resultant microstructure and expected mechanical properties of the final product. Additionally, the geometry dependency of mechanical properties of AM parts would be of great interest in this course. The course will be in the form of a seminar. The students and write state-of-the-art reports using recent scientific literature on the given topics at the beginning of the course. The report will provide the basis for an oral examination. The topic of reports can orient mainly on process, material analysis, mechanical characterization, and design for additive manufacturing.
Learning outcomes
Learn the fundamentals of additive manufacturing (AM) of metals and understand their operating principles, capabilities, and limitations. Get to know the applications of AM across industries, including aerospace/automotive, medical devices, energy, electronics, and consumer products.
Teaching methods
The teaching will be a combination of lectures, colloquiums, and self-studies. The curriculum can be adjusted to the individual students depending on wish and need. If there are less than 4 registered students, the course coordinator will decide whether the course will take place.
