About this course

Content

Properties for fibers, polymer matrix and core materials. Thermo-mechanical behavior, micromechanical models, laminate theory, damage mechanics and failure criteria. Structures as beams, shell, sandwich plates and tubes. Finite element analysis. Manufacturing Methods: Manual and automated manufacturing methods such as hand layup, vacuum assisted resin transfer, injection, winding, compression molding and pultrusion. Processing and testing.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: To provide knowledge about polymer composite materials with regard to constitutive materials, design and processing.

Skills: Ability to comprehend theory from multiple sources, and be able to use this theory on practical applications.

General Competence: Be able to communicate and present obtained knowledge.

Teaching methods

Lectures, problems and self study. Some use of computer aided analysis tools such as MatLab and Abaqus. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required. The course will only be given if at least five students sign up.
