Learning outcomes

By the end of the semester students will

  • Have foundational knowledge of the principles behind the scanning mechanisms of scanners used in terrestrial, mobile and airborne laser scanning.
  • Have the necessary knowledge to perform data acquisition using terrestrial laser scanners, including the registration and georeferencing of datasets.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the statistical methods used to analyze the accuracy of an acquired dataset and can identify systematic and gross errors in measurements.
  • Be able to apply the necessary tools and methods for creating and managing point clouds, including basic 3D modeling and feature extraction from point cloud data.
  • Be able to explain the key data formats and workflows related to Scan to BIM and understand the connection between digitalization in construction processes and the use of point cloud data.
  • understand and have the knowledge of the process of deriving BIM model based on scan data.
  • Have foundational knowledge to prepare precise reports and document fieldwork as well as post-processing of data from laser scanning.

For students in online study program:

The course includes mandatory requirements that require in-person attendance at the Gjøvik campus. Students in online study programs should plan for two on-campus meetings in Gjøvik, each lasting up to three days.

The subject is taught for both campus and students in online study program. Lectures and guidance are adapted to both groups.
