About this course

Content

The course builds on chemistry knowledge from Science 1 and Science 2 and will enable the student to plan science teaching based on the chemistry that students encounter in everyday life. The course deals with selected topics in chemistry for primary school teachers, including: acids and bases, equilibriums, redox and precipitation reactions. The course will also provide students with knowledge of environmental toxins and other substances in everyday life. In addition, the course will provide students with knowledge and skills about establishing and maintaining safe science classrooms in primary and lower secondary school.

  • has in-depth knowledge of the proper organization of chemistry equipment and chemicals for science classrooms in primary and secondary schools
  • has in-depth knowledge of various chemical reactions
  • has knowledge of selected analytical methods in chemistry
  • has knowledge of the impact of some chemical substances on the environment

Skills

The student

  • can operate a science classroom and take responsibility for the proper organization of chemistry equipment and chemicals in science classrooms
  • can plan, implement and analyze a chemistry teaching program
  • can use simple mathematical tools to solve quantitative problems related to chemical reactions
  • can apply knowledge of chemical analysis methods to relevant science teaching
  • can apply chemistry knowledge to provide an explanation of human impact on the climate and environment

General competence

  • can find, evaluate and refer to relevant chemistry and chemistry didactic research, information and subject matter and apply this in teaching
