Theory and analysis

This course allows candidates to develop advanced knowledge and understanding of a variety of theoretical frameworks and analytical approaches in arts education research. The course seeks to advance master’s research that is independent, critical, ethical, theoretically positioned, analytical and well-articulated. The course further aims to enhance the candidates’ confidence and ability to creatively analyse arts education research material. The course provides insight into theories and research paradigms, and how different positions influence the knowledge production. Ethical perspectives on research are emphasised.

The teaching is organized as part of the MGLU education with master’s in music or arts & craft on campus in Trondheim.

Candidates will learn through the following methods:

• Workshops and collaboration, constructing a community of practice

• Reading, analysis, writing, and peer discourse

• Develop own master’s analytical design

• Self-directed learning
