Master's thesis in arts & crafts with creative practice

This course consists of work on the master's thesis, including practical creative work. The master's thesis with creative work is an independent academic research project that is original, critical, ethical, methodical, informed and clearly articulated, related to a topic relevant to arts and crafts. The research project can be theory-driven or practice-led. The result to be evaluated is a written master's thesis and creative work where the research question is explored through artistic research. The creative work can be presented as part of the written assignment in addition to a presentation or exhibition. The creative work and the written dissertation are mutually dependent on the approach to the research topic. Supervision is an important element in the work on the master's thesis, and supervision is a compulsory part of the course.

The master's thesis is written individually and workshop work is run individually. The learning methods consist of: Independent individual work under the supervision of a supervisor. Supervision can take place individually or in groups. Two verbal presentations of the master's project in process, including opposition from fellow students' master's projects in process, midway and towards the end of the process. All students must read, understand and sign a written agreement that regulates the master's thesis process. The agreement confirms that a supervision relationship has been established, that the topic has been approved by the supervisor and that the parts (student, supervisor and department) know, understand and have accepted the regulations specified in the agreement. Organization of collaboration with and research at institutions that are relevant to their own master's project must be arranged by the students themselves.
