Social pedagogical work in school

The course provides an in-depth study of educational development work related to diversity and inclusion issues. Educational development work takes place at several levels, in several arenas and with several actors, and the course emphasises developing students' system and management knowledge. This involves knowledge of processes both at the school level, but also work that takes place across academic environments, such as the school's collaboration with the health and social services. The course emphasises training the student's competence to initiate and enter into interdisciplinary collaboration with other disciplines and professions.

KNOWLEDGE:

The student

- has in-depth knowledge of opportunities and challenges of conducting development work at their own school with regard to developing an inclusive learning environment - in-depth knowledge of what it means to facilitate a democratic school where students and parents are given room for participation

- has knowledge of professional collaborators relevant to the school's work to take care of various student groups, including those who are part of the health and social services

- has knowledge of interdisciplinary collaboration on children and young people's upbringing and educational conditions

- has knowledge of educational policy provisions central to the school's work with diversity and inclusion, and the idea behind it

SKILLS:

The student

- can identify and critically analyze how educational policy and organizational conditions impact work with diversity and inclusion

- can, based on an understanding of diversity and inclusion issues, facilitate and initiate pedagogical development work in own school

- can actively initiate and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with other relevant actors outside the school

GENERAL COMPETENCE:

The student

- can assist in planning, and further support the development in their own school with regard to developing an inclusive learning environment.

- can contribute to promoting a school culture that takes care of students with different backgrounds, and the diversity they represent

The course emphasizes variation between lectures and student-active working methods. The course aims for students to become familiar with professionals with expertise in key issues that are highlighted in the course. It is thus relevant with excursions and the use of invited external lecturers.
