Master Thesis in Special Education

The student must plan and carry out independent research work relevant to the special education subject area. The work on the master's thesis is based on a project plan that the student has prepared and approved in advance in the 9th semester. The student can choose whether the research work should include empirical data or only be theoretically based. The master's thesis is the research report where the student documents the work and presents his research findings. Through the master's thesis, the student must, on the basis of the chosen research question, show insight into current research, theories and research methods. The master's thesis is written under supervision.

Knowledge

• has specialized knowledge within a limited subject area in special education
• has in-depth knowledge of the research process, from planning, through implementation and to documentation of an independent research work

Skills

The student

• can, under supervision, design and carry out a research project in line with current research ethics norms
• can familiarize himself with research literature and theory that is relevant to conducting research within a limited area in special education
• can use relevant research methods to be able to conduct research in an independent manner
• can find out and relate critically to various sources of information

General competence

The student

• can disseminate extensive independent research work within the subject area
• can critically evaluate various research work and their validity and relevance
• can apply insight from a selected, specialized subject area with relevance to special education, and contribute to the development of special education practice in the school
