Master Thesis in Music education

The master's thesis in music education corresponds to half a year of full-time work and must show that the candidate can work independently and research-based with an issue that is relevant in a teaching profession context. The theme for the thesis must be relevant for work with music in school. The project will include theoretical and research-based perspectives of relevance to the music subject in a teaching profession context.

Knowledge

Students:

- has advanced knowledge of key topics and issues for music / music didactics.

- has specialized knowledge of the field / subject that he / she has worked with in his / her master's thesis.

- has in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and methodological perspectives used in the master's thesis.

- has knowledge of academic writing, research ethics and insight into research traditions that are relevant to music / music didactics / music pedagogy.

- can make use of advanced knowledge in critical discussion and reflection in dialogue with an academic, artistic and music professional community.

Skills

Students:

- can analyze and critically evaluate research and development work that is relevant to music / music didactics, and use different sources of information to structure and formulate professional reasoning.

- can make use of relevant research literature to shed light on issues within the chosen field / subject.

- can generate, document and analyze research material in own master's thesis.

- can work independently with a limited research topic.

- can prepare and carry out independent research work within music / music didactics under supervision and in line with current research ethics principles.

General competence

Students:

- can use their knowledge and skills to contribute to knowledge development in music / music didactics.

- can convey an independent work and masters those of the subject area's forms of expression and knowledge that he / she has worked with in his / her master's thesis.

- Supervision and seminars

- The candidate will write a master's thesis in music education under supervision

- The candidate participates in mandatory seminars that are aimed at the individual project. Content and form of work will therefore vary.
