Master Thesis in English

This course consists of the master’s thesis. Under supervision, students will design and complete a research project documented through a written master’s thesis. The theme for the assignment is decided by the student in consultation with the supervisor(s) and will therefore vary from student to student.

• has advanced, specialized knowledge within a specific area of English language, literature, culture and subject didactics
• has thorough knowledge of the requirements of an academic text
• has advanced knowledge of reference standards for academic texts

• can write English precisely and effectively to generate an academic text
• can, under supervision, design and complete a research project that conforms to current research ethics
• can critically apply relevant methodological and theoretical approaches and previous research based on the needs of the profession and to identify new areas of research in the field
• can analyze and apply relevant research methods for English language, literature, culture and subject didactics independently
• can identify and critically assess various sources of information
• can refer to sources according to recognized standards in the field
• can familiarize oneself with literature relevant to conducting research within the specific area of English language, literature, culture and subject didactics

General competence

The student

• can disseminate extensive independent research work within the subject area and master the language of research in the field
• can communicate about research questions, scientific positioning, analyses, results in the field
• can contribute to the development of English as a subject in schools
• can apply knowledge to find answers to relevant issues within the subject area
• can disseminate research within the subject area to specialists and teachers

Individual work with individual supervision or supervision in small groups. Group seminars to discuss work in progress and a master student conference.
