Pedagogy and Pupil-related Skills 3 (5-10)

The subject's academic content is centered around the school's dual social mission, education and Bildung. Central themes are education, the school in a diverse society, curriculum understanding and professional ethical competence. The purpose of the course is for the student to develop an understanding of how societal processes affect the teacher's work in the classroom and of the school's role as part of the local, national and global community.

The student

• has a thorough understanding of the curriculum and can discuss challenges in the implementation of the applicable curriculum and other governing documents
• has advanced knowledge of the pupil’s Bildung in a pluralistic society
• has in-depth knowledge of the importance of the community for the pupils' learning processes.

Skills

The student

• can critically analyze and apply the school's values
• can identify and discuss professional ethical issues rooted in ethical theory
• can facilitate interaction in classes and groups at grades 5-10 and afterwards critically analyze the activity
• can apply research-based knowledge to prevent bullying and analyze and implement measures to counteract bullying.

General competence

The student

• can identify and analyze challenges in everyday school life in a pluralistic school and utilize the opportunities it provides.

The teaching methods vary between lectures, student-active seminars, and individual and group work. It is a prerequisite that the students participate actively in the teaching, and that they work with the teaching and learning materials on their own. Reflection on theory and practice is central to the development of professional competence in teaching.
