Philosophy as a Discipline and Practice (5-10)

The course uses thematic and practical approaches to the exploration of philosophy and ethics, and research on, as well as philosophy and ethics didactics research and theory. Ethical ways of thinking, ethics didactics, philosophical discourse, judgment and the development of critical thinking are included as compulsory topics. In the subject didactic part of the course, analytical ability and practical profiiency are trained through discussing ethical and philosophical questions.

• has in-depth knowledge of selected topics within philosophy and ethics
• has advanced knowledge in philosophy and philosophy education, ethics and ethics didactics
• has in-depth knowledge of how KRLE teaching can be adapted to all students' abilities and needs
• has in-depth knowledge of progression in KRLE teaching and pupils' learning

Skills

The student

• can compare and reflect analytically on the relationship between selected philosophical topics and between selected ethical ways of thinking
• can apply knowledge of philosophy and ethics, philosophy and ethics didactics in planning, implementation and analysis of teaching
• can create and analyse KRLE-relevant teaching material based on philosophy and ethics education
• can analyse and critically relate to national and international research related to ethics and philosophy teaching, and can apply this knowledge in professional practice
• can plan and carry out teaching in the KRLE subject that promotes the pupil's philosophical and ethical ways of thinking

General competence

The student

• can systematically plan, evaluate and revise teaching materials and teaching plans in KRLE
• can at an advanced level present and communicate about subject specific issues related to professional practice, and has professional digital competence
• can contribute to development work that promotes academic and pedagogical innovation in schools

The course is organised with regular weekly teaching. Excursions can take place outside regular teaching hours. The teaching methods alternate between lectures, work on assignments individually and in groups, dialogues, as well as oral and written student presentations.
