Text, Narrative and Practice: Research and Education in KRLE (5-10)

The course provides a more in depth look at relevant texts and narratives with examples from Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. The course sheds light on the relationship between religions/lifeviews and ethics, and on how to work with that in school. The course aims at giving knowledge about philosophical ways of thinking and philosophical forms of conversation, within and outside school. The course provides practical experience in planning and implementing KRLE-excursions with pupils.

KNOWLEDGE

The student

• has extensive knowledge of a selection of texts and narratives in religions and how to work with them in the school.
• has knowledge about the relationship between religion/worldview and ethics.
• has knowledge about philosophical ways of thinking and forms of conversation, within and outside the school, past and present.
• has knowledge about selected ethical and philosophical challenges.
• has knowledge about how aesthetic methods can help to promote learning, motivation and variation in the work on the subject
• has knowledge about research on children in relation to religion, worldviews and ethics

SKILLS

The student

• is capable of explaining texts and narratives in religions and use them in teaching.
• is capable of preparing teaching arrangements that use aesthetic methods and digital tools
• is capable of discussing different aspects of the relationship between religion/worldviews and ethics.
• is capable of discussing selected philosophical and ethical problems
• is able to reflect on different teaching methods and forms of evaluation which are used in the school-subject.

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The student

• is capable of discussing and applying curricula and other guidelines as a basis for teaching.
• is capable of discussing different methods in KRLE.
• has extensive knowledge of religions and worldviews and is able to apply this knowledge in different ways in the school.

Teaching methods will include weekly in-class lessons, working with tasks both individually and in groups, discussions, and student presentations. Discussions and other academic interactions, such as responding to fellow students' work, are important ways for working and learning in the course, and all students are expected to participate in these activities. Excursions are part of mandatory activities which may take place outside regular lessons. Academic discussions and other academic interaction are important forms of work and learning. For this reason, several sessions that contain this will have mandatory attendance. Which sessions this applies to will be stated in the semester plan. Students are expected to come prepared to the lessons, so that they can contribute to the learning activities in the best possible way.
