Specialization in social studies (5-10)

Social studies 2 provides specialization in social science knowledge and skills areas with relevance for teaching at the primary and intermediate level.

The course provides in-depth study of scientific theory, methods and research skills related to the implementation of the FOU-project.

The course provides in-depth study of selected social studies topics such as identity, digital citizenship and key political dividing lines, adapted to primary and lower secondary school levels 5-10.

The course also has an in-depth study of selected geographical topics, including geographical method and geography didactics adapted to primary school levels 5-10.

The course provides in-depth study of selected historical and history didactic topics, including historical theory and method.

Specialization is given in the Norwegian school subject social history, scientific thinking and crisis didactics.

KNOWLEDGE

Has in-depth knowledge of key themes, theories and processes in the fields of identity construction, digital citizenship and key political dividing lines adapted to primary school grades 5-10.

Has in-depth knowledge of selected geographical topics, including geographical method and geography didactics adapted to primary school grades 5-10.

Has in-depth knowledge of selected historical and history didactic topics, including historical theory and method.

Has in-depth knowledge of the Norwegian school subject, the history of social studies, scientific thinking and crisis didactics.

Has in-depth knowledge of key scientific theoretical positions and selected qualitative and quantitative research methods.

SKILLS

Can identify connections between the course's thematic areas and explain how they interfere with each other.

Can connect basic insights from the subject's topics to the social studies' didactic theory in planning and implementation of teaching.

Can apply academic skills such as critical thinking and argumentation on an analytical level.

Can choose and use research methods that are suitable for their own FOU- projects and carry out the project in accordance with accepted research ethics standards and the regulations for privacy.

GENERAL COMPETENCE

Can reflect independently and critically on social science issues based on knowledge and familiarity with the subject areas of the subject.

Has an analytical perspective on selected geographical topics, including reflection on geographical method and geography didactics.

Can reflect critically on history and the use of history based on history didactic insights and historical theory / method.

Be able to connect insights from the different parts of the social sciences.

Lectures, independent work and work in groups with and without supervision. Excursion.
