About this course
Content
Social studies 1 part 1 provides an introduction to social studies as areas of knowledge and as a school subject, with relevance for teaching at grade 1-7. Introduction to the school subject includes the purpose of the school subject, value mandate and curriculum.
Within the field of culture, community and identity, emphasis is placed on basic sociological concepts, themes and understandings, with the main focus on social inequality.
A basic introduction to geographical topics and understandings will be given from the perspective 'from the local to the global' with a particular focus on place and landscape, population, development and globalisation.
In the subject, some basic lines in world history and Sami history are drawn up.
The subject and subject didactics are taught as an integrated part of the course to strengthen professional understanding.

KNOWLEDGE
The student
- has broad knowledge of central themes, theories and processes within the fields of culture, diversity and socialisation.
- has broad knowledge of geographical theories, processes and themes along the axis from the local to the global.
- have basic knowledge of world history and Sami history.
- has knowledge of the social studies didactics, purpose, value mandate and curriculum.
SKILLS
The student
- can identify connections between the subject's thematic areas and explain how they interfere with each other.
- can connect basic insights from the subject's themes to social studies' didactic theory in planning and carrying out teaching.
- can develop and apply academic skills such as critical thinking and argumentation.
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The student
- can reflect independently and critically on social science issues based on knowledge and familiarity with different perspectives.
- has a reflected perspective on geographical knowledge and the connection between topics along the axis from the local to the global.
- has insights into the main lines of world history and Sami history.
