Content
Subject 1 physical education 5-10 must together with subject 2 qualify for teaching physical education from grades 5-10 in primary school. Subject 1 is based on physical education as a general education subject. Through theoretical and practical approaches, the course will focus on the relevance of physical education as a school subject, what promotes physical learning, positive self-understanding, health and joy of movement teaching in various movement environments, as well as knowledge about assessment in physical education. Physical education 5-10 emphasizes teaching competence in sports and movement activities, outdoor life, play and dance as well as up-to-date forms of movement in children's and youth culture.

KNOWLEDGE
Candidate
- has knowledge of the relevance and central values of physical education, its distinctive character and legitimation, as well as its connection to other school subjects
- has knowledge of teaching planning and implementation in physical education
- has knowledge of assessment in physical education (proficiency in course 2)
- has knowledge of sports and movement activities, outdoor life, play, dance and contemporary forms of movement in children's and youth culture
- has knowledge of the prerequisites for learning on the basis of the growth and development of the pupil in grades 5-10
SKILLS
Candidate
- can plan and carry out teaching in physical education based on legislation, current curriculum and professional ethical guidelines
- can explore their own bodily expressions and lead and carry out creative processes where movement experience and reflection are central
- can identify hazards and ensure pupils' safety in different activities and movement environments
- can facilitate swimming lessons at level 5-10 and perform life-saving first aid as well as lifesaving in water
- can include the basic skills in teaching on the subject's premises
GENERAL COMPETENCE
- can discuss the way in which physical education contributes to the pupil's general education
- can communicate with pupils, parents and colleagues about physical education
- can work with physical education in an interdisciplinary perspective, including the three interdisciplinary topics in the curriculum
Teaching methods
The program contains varied forms of learning with a lot of practical work in different learning environments. Students must work individually and in groups.
