Method in Health Care Informatics

Qualitative and quantitative methods.

The course is used as an introduction and development of a master's degree project through the essay exam in the course being linked to the intended master's thesis in health informatics. The course is intended to prepare the student for independent work on the master's thesis.

After completing the course, the participant should have knowledge on:

• structuring of a research process. Students gain insight into which steps are part of a research process, and what those steps entail
• research design
• different research methods, such as qualitative and quantitative methods, and design research
• structure of a master's thesis

After completing the course, the participant should have skills in:

• formulation of good research questions
• choosing the right research design given a research question
• choosing adequate research methods and techniques
• using Endnote as a tool for processing references.

The teaching is based on being on campus 2 x 2 days during the semster. Consists of seminars and groupwork with practical exercises and presentations. Mandatory deliveries during the term, evaluated as pass/feil. The deadline is set together with students. Relevant parts of the curriculum must be known or read before the lectures take place.
