Clerkship in Local Hospital

Semester IIIB begins with one week of preparation for practical training in Trondheim. This week contains subjects and topics that will make the transition to clinical practice easier for the students. The main focus will be emergency medicine, where teaching in emergency medical conditions, ECG interpretation, anesthesia and practical training in pocket ultrasound will be provided. In addition, a separate prescription course is arranged.

This is followed by a total of 18 weeks of practical training at local hospitals where the students participate in the daily operations of various hospital departments that NTNU collaborates with. The psychiatric part of the practice lasts for 4 weeks and includes 1 week at the child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinic, and 3 weeks in an adult psychiatric inpatient ward, or other relevant sections at the place where you are placed.

This placement period is one of the mandatory elements in the programme description. After a brief introduction to the individual department, the students will be part of the collegium to acquire practical knowledge. Eventually, the students will be able to perform certain routines, procedures and hand actions under supervision. A working week is expected to correspond to about 40 hours, where a "working day" usually begins with the department's morning meeting and ends at 4 p.m. However, it is an additional requirement that doctors on duty must be monitored as a mandatory activity approximately weekly during the practice period.

The compulsory activity TverrPraks in MD4061, can be completed in MD4053 and will then be considered approved
