Collaboration with Children

The course focuses on recent research and various theoretical approaches to collaboration with children in child protection and welfare. Key concepts include collaboration, children, child protection and welfare, the role of the profession and other actors' influence on children, recognition, dialogue, and resistance.

Knowledge:

• the candidate has in-depth knowledge of perspectives on collaboration with children in child protection and welfare.
• the candidate has advanced knowledge of the potential for health promotion and children's meaning making through collaboration.
• the candidate has advanced knowledge of the opportunity for children's participation and learning through collaboration.
• the candidate has advanced knowledge of the importance of the child's development, dependency, communication experiences, communication skills and mental health.

Skills:

• the candidate can analyze and critically reflect on the importance of context and relations for collaboration with children.
• the candidate can analyze and reflect on the challenges and opportunities associated with professional collaboration with children.
• the candidate can discuss the importance of cultural sensitivity, trust-building and facilitation to make collaboration with children happen

General competence:

• the candidate has in-depth knowledge of opportunities and challenges related to collaboration with children within child protection and welfare.

Lectures, analytical work in groups, discussions, self-study and assignments. The main language of instruction is Norwegian, but parts of the teaching can be given in English.
