About this course

Content

Welding terminology. Selected methods for fusion welding, solid state welding and energy beam welding. Heat transport in the workpiece. Stress and deformation. Welding metallurgy. Welding defects and fractures. Welding tests. Welding procedures and welding certificates. Standards used in welding. Simple strength calculations of welds. Costs of welding in manufacturing. Welding and HSE.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: The candidate should be familiar with properties and application areas of different welding methods, have practical insight into welding, and know factors that contribute to a good and reliable welding result. The candidate must be familiar with welding metallurgy, and know the international standards, quality requirements and test methods that are relevant in welding. The candidate must be familiar with HSE for welding and test methods.

Skills: The candidate should be able to suggest a suitable welding method and procedure to achieve good welding quality. The candidate must be able to carry out simple non-destructive testing of welds. The candidate must be able to make strength calculations.

General competence: The candidate must understand the requirements that applies when using welding as a manufacturing method. The candidate must be able to discuss welding issues with experts in the field.
