About this course

Content

The goal of this course is to study the process of developing numerically approximate solutions of engineering problems, whose complexity is difficult to be solved by analytical modeling and codes. Emphasis is placed on the construction of models and finite element (FE) simulation of built models. In the construction of models, critical attention is given to the understanding of drawings and the knowledge of modeling strategies in terms of complex geometry, mechanical behaviors and physical process. In the simulation of built models, important attention is given to the understanding and interpretation of FE results under various physical processes as well as the optimization of designed products in terms of target properties. The associated fundamental knowledge of simulations will be introduced by including basic element types (truss, beam, sheet and solid).

Learning outcomes

  • The candidate has competence in understanding the design process from idea to 3D model with the use of 3D modeling and variant construction.
  • The candidate has the competence to use element methods in general skills.
  • The candidate can realize a product as a 3D model.
  • The candidate can identify, plan and execute simulations, as well as analyze, interpret and use emergent data, both independently and in groups.
  • The candidate has insight into the technical consequences of selected solutions within his / her field of expertise and can assess the disadvantages and advantages of the chosen methods.
