About this course

Content

This course consists of two parts. The first part is an introduction to the dynamics and vibrations of mechanical systems. Topics covered include kinematics, force-momentum formulation for systems of particles and rigid bodies in planar motion, work-energy concepts, virtual displacements, and virtual work. The second part introduces topics of fracture mechanics such as Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics, S-N fatigue life and fracture mechanics of fatigue.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, you should have knowledge of dynamics, vibrations and fracture mechanics and be able to design dynamically loaded constructions. You will also learn how to use modern finite element methods to solve fracture mechanics problems.

Teaching methods

Lectures and assignments. Most lectures will be recorded, and links to the recordings will be made available from the learning platform. Supervision of the net students will be done via a forum, where the students can submit questions.
