Research in Mathematics education I

The course introduces and treats research in mathematical didactics (research topics, problems, central issues and theories, methods, results) with special emphasis on teaching mathematics and mathematical learning in middle (ungdomsskole) and secondary (videregående) school.

After completing the course, the student should have insight into and overview of the mathematical didactical research area. The student able to read research literature with critical and reflected manner. The student should have in-depth knowledge of selected topics.

Lectures, literature study seminars and written assignments. Oral presentation of selected work in mathematical didactics.
Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. This portfolio comprises written assignment 1 (20%) and written assignment 2 (80%). Written assignment 1 only counts if it has a positive effect on the total assessment. Both assigments and grade for the whole portfolio (course grade) is given by the letter grading system.
