Research Methods

The course's focus is to provide a broad introduction to social science research methods, and this includes knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative approaches, as well as statistics.

Part 1 deals with quantitative method: characteristics, research process, different designs, data collection, analysis and quality.

Part 2 deals with qualitative method: characteristics, research process, different designs, data collection, analysis and quality.

Part 3 deals with statistics: descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, logic and methods (parametric and non-parametric statistics). Analysis of data using SPSS.

Knowledge:

- knowledge of social science method and knowledge

- knowledge of opportunities, limitations and quality within quantitative and qualitative approaches to research

- knowledge of the use of statistical analyzes in quantitative studies and the logic behind significance testing

Skills:

- can apply qualitative, quantitative methods and statistics in own research

- can read and understand qualitative and quantitative research literature

General competence:

- a basis for critical reflection related to research and research results

Lectures, individual reflection, group discussions and plenary discussions. The course has mandatory assignments. It is assumed that all students regularly use the current learning platform.
