Syntax I

The course offers an introduction to formal grammar with an emphasis on syntax and the frameworks Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG) and Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG). The course includes exercises.

The objective is that the students get a general idea of the basic system of concepts, problems and methods within syntactic theories.

Lectures and group instructions. More on assessment: Obligatory exercises have to be approved before the student may take the written exam. The size of the exercises must be between 4-6 A4-pages each. In special cases, upon student petition, a take-home exam may be allowed.
