About this course

Content

The course gives an introduction to programming, software engineering and XML technology. Software engineering (system work) with teamwork in a project related to a relevant case. You will also be introduced to XML technology and adjoining standards for storage and representation of semi-structural data. An introduction to JSON as an alternative to XML is given. Code understanding related to digital archiving. Programming in a development tool with relevant examples. The course also provides a brief introduction to machine learning and language models (AI).

The course content has transfer value for work with digital documentation in a varied working life, for example in archives and museums, as well as records management in various businesses.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

The student

  • is familiar with basic building blocks in programming
  • has knowledge of different system development models and knows how a system development project is managed, documented and implemented
  • knows how an XML document is built up (tree structure) and how XML Schema is used to validate (set requirements) structure and data content of the document
  • knows some practical usage examples of xml, related to specific examples of standards
  • knows how JSON document is structured, and the differences between JSON and XML
  • knows the basic workings and critical use of artificial intelligence

Skills:

The student

  • can participate actively in teams for to design requirements for a future information system or archives, document management and museums
  • masters simple programming against files and relational databases
  • write and interpret XML and XML schema

General competence:

The student

  • can use information models to document the information system's vision, user requirements, and simple system requirements
  • can create structured program code that solves simple problems by analyzsing given issues
  • can apply the principal understanding of programming, standards and how databases work to various digital work tools
  • can express himself/herself professionally, both orally and in writing
