Introductory Course in Latin

This course is an introduction to the Latin language and Roman culture, with a focus on basic grammar and vocabulary.

After having completed this course

• the candidate has acquired basic knowledge of Latin language (vocabulary, morphology and syntax)
• the candidate has acquired basic knowledge of Latin literature, its history and significance as a foundation for Western culture and tradition
• the candidate has acquired the skills of reading and translating elementary texts (in the original language) from the classical period of Latin literature
• the candidate has acquired the skills of performing grammatical analyses of these texts and relate them to their literary, cultural and historical contexts

Lectures and seminars.

More on mandatory activities:

• Oral translation of the text-book texts from Latin to Norwegian or other relevant language in class, plus vocabulary tests in the lectures. Various assignments in the seminars.
