Participation and learning in museums

Museums and cultural heritage institutions are arenas for participation and lifelong learning. Focusing on contemporary museum practice, the course provides insight into museums’ roles and functions within these fields. The course combines relevant theory from museology cultural heritage learning with cases studies, insight into the field of practice through relevant examples, meetings with representatives from the field and insight into project work at a museum.The students practice discussing specific projects, exhibitions and digital cultural heritage dissemination based on relevant theory.

- has good practice in analysing the roles and functions of museums and other cultural heritage institutions in different areas of society.

- has good practice in reflecting on and discussing museum professional and ethical issues related to participation, co-creation and learning.

- can use the knowledge to independently discuss museum projects and museum dissemination.

Lectures, seminars, group work and individual study. Parts of the teaching will be session-based and take place at a museum.
