Museology

The course aims at giving knowledge and insight in the functions of museums in the culture of our time and in the development of museums. In addition to theory based museology, practical problems concerning the educational role of the museum will be addressed.

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills:

The course should make the students acquainted with theory of museology and the organising and functions in the museum field, and also give insight in museums' and other heritage institutions' functions as learning arenas.

Candidate
The course should provide practice in exhibition analysis, and a basic understanding of the interplay between critical analysis and constructive production of exhibitions. The course should also provide practice in communicating on topics in the museum field and should offer a basis for reflection and discussion of professional and ethical dilemmas concerning management of museums and exhibition practice.
