Work Placement and Bachelor's Thesis in Cultural Heritage and Museum

This course combines a period of work placement with the writing of a bachelor's thesis that marks the end of the BA degree i Cultural Heritage Management. The work placement lasts for ca 4 weeks and the thesis should be between 6000 and 8000 words (not including footnotes, literature list and appendixes).

The course is closely tied to different institutions connected to practical work in the cultural heritage sector. The content of the project work will vary according to the different cooperating institutions and the interests of the individual student. The thesis will be written under supervision.

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills:

Knowledge:

The candidate:

• Has in her/his practical training in a relevant institution to some extent been familiarized with the organization and working methods in one part of practical cultural heritage work.
• Has by writing her/his bachelor's thesis demonstrated broad knowledge of one particular field of cultural heritage.

Skills:

The candidate:

• Has through her/his work placement acquired experience in being a part of practical cultural heritage work, and have some training in working with specific tasks.
• Has by writing her/his bachelor's thesis been trained in applying theory in discussing issues in practical cultural heritage work.
• Has experience in producing a text that meets academic standards.

The teaching combines individual supervision with obligatory group seminars.
