About this course

Content

Materials models and descriptions of creep and shrinkage in concrete with the effects of materials composition, hardening conditions and environmental conditions. Simplified and more advanced solution methods for stress calculations.

Early age concrete properties, test and calculation methods

Advanced crackwidth calculation methods

SLS design og bridges and other structures in exposed environment

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: After finished subject shall the candidate have a reasonably good understanding of materials behaviour and the mechanisms wich cause the time dependent deformations creep and shrinkage in concrete. Furthermore shall the candidate know the necessary terminology and have a godd understanding of the theory behind the current calculatrion methods which are presented, and know how they shall be applied in simplified and more advanced analysis and strength calculations. Skills: After finished subject shall the candidate be able to - Expalin the mechanisms causing creep and shrinkage in concrete, and how these properties are influenced by internal and external conditions as materials composition, humidity and temperature - Be able to carry out simplified and advanced calculations where time dependence and the described materials properties can be accounted for. General competence: After finished subject shall the candidate understand and be able to solve problems within structural analysis where the effects of creep and shrinkage shall be accounted for.

Teaching methods

Lectures and excercises. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If the teaching is given in English the Examination papers will be given in English only. Students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.
