About this course
Content
The course covers description and modelling of the dynamic properties of structures, methods for the calculation of dynamic response in time and frequency domain and dynamic stability. For the calculation of dynamic response induced by randomly distributed loads stochastic methods are presented. System identification based on measured data of dynamic structures will also be covered.
Learning outcomes
Computational methods in structural dynamics is a course in the understanding of advanced computational methods for dynamic problems mainly related to civil engineering structures. Prerequisite knowledge can be acquired from the Master courses TKT4201 Structural Dynamics 1 and TKT4108 Structural Dynamics 2 or otherwise. The present course covers description and modeling of the dynamic properties of structures, methods to establish equations of motion and methods to calculate the structural dynamic behavior, dynamic load and load effects.Computational methods in structural dynamics aim at the following learning outcomes:Knowledge:Upon the completion, the candidate should have the knowledge of:- Describing and model the dynamic properties of structures - Methods for the calculation of dynamic response in time and frequency domain- Dynamic stability- Stochastic analysis of dynamic response induced by randomly distributed loads from environmental loads.- System identification based on measured dataSkills:Upon completion, the candidate is able to:- Establish the discretization of complex dynamic structures- Design and conduct experimental methods to validate the dynamic properties of loads and structural response- Use software to calculate the dynamic response of structures with high complexity and to evaluate the resulting dynamic properties- Use measured data to identify and evaluate dynamic systemsGeneral competence / Expertise:Upon completion, the candidate is able to:- Evaluate the need for dynamic analyses as the foundation for structural design- Understand and make use of the latest scientific research within computational methods in structural dynamics
