Ancient Christianity

The course comprises Christianity in the first Century AD. It provides an introduction to Ancient Christian history and texts. Knowledge of the Jewish and Hellenistic background of Ancient Christianity is central.

According to the course curriculum, a candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome (defined as knowledge and skills)

Knowledge
The candidate has attained
- basic knowledge of the Christian and non-Christian textual sources of the period
- knowledge of the Roman-Hellenistic and the Jewish society of the first century
- thorough knowledge of central features of first century Christianity

Skills:
The candidate will develop skills to
- apply relevant academic literature dealing with ancient Christianity
- account for and discuss central issues of first century Christianity
- work critically with the periods Christian and non-Christian textual sources

The instruction consists of lectures and/or seminars.
In order to take the exam a written assignment must be submitted (2000-2500 words). The written assignment is only given in the semester when the subject is taught, but is valid for this and the subsequent semester. The exam consists of a written assignment (3000-4000 words).
