Research Training in Psychiatry

Research course over two years (four semesters), 24 credits.

PhD-course primarily for PhD-students with clinical projects in psychiatry, however, we also welcome applicants from other fields; e.g somatics.

The course has 4 semesters:

1. Literature search and research question.

- writing your introduction

2. Methods and design

3. Statistics and results

4. Manuscript writing.

Individual guidance by a research guide, this must be arranged by the applicants themselves.

A candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge:

After completing KLMED8011, the student should be able to:

• be in the forefront of knowledge within his/her academic field and masters the field´s philosophy of science and/or artistic issues and methods.
• evaluate the expediency and application of different methods and processes in research and scholarly and/or artistic development projects, including ethical issues in clinical research in psychiatry.
• contribute to the development of new knowledge, new theories, methods, interpretations and forms of documentation in the field.

Skills:

After completing KLMED8011, the student should be able to:

• formulate problems, plan and carry out research and scholarly and/or artistic development work.
• carry out research and scholarly and/or artistic research work of a high international standard, including being able to evaluate relevant topics in clinical research;
• handle complex academic issues and challenge established knowledge and practice in the field.

General competence

After completing KLMED8011, the student should be able to:

• identify new relevant ethical issues and carry out his/her research with scholarly integrity.
• manage complex interdisciplinary assignments and projects.
• communicate research and development work through recognized Norwegian and international channels, including to be able to write high-quality scientific articles.
• participate in debates in the field in international forums.

A total of 8-10 meetings each semester, 2-4 hours with some extended days. 1/3 lectures; 2/3 workshop/group discussions with student's own research projects.

If less than 10 students are enrolled the course might not be arranged.
