Basic Research Training in Psychiatry

The course's main focus is on quantitative experimental/ quasi-experimental methods. Each candidate develops their own clinical research project with group and tutor feed-back through the course.

The program covers the following main themes:

•Resarch framework conditions
*Problem analyses
•Searching the literature
• Experimental design
* Other research designs
•The research protocol - structure and contents.
•Statistics and analyzes.
•Report writing
•Laws and ethical standards

Mini-ELF aims to teach the candidates to formulate questions scientifically, to optimize their study populations, study designs, research instruments, data-analyzes, and reports. Each candidate develops their own clinical research project with group and tutor feed-back through the course. At the end of the course the candidates produce and present their research protocol. This should be of sufficient quality to obtain the necessary approvals, such as the Ethics Committee, the Data Inspectorate and others which may be indicated for individual projects. It should also be realistic in the sense that the candidate can carry the project through. The final aim and the true object of the training is that the candidate carry trough the project and share the contribution to science through an appropriate publication.

The course covers 10 course days over a year with group meetings approximately every three to six weeks. Due to activities between the meetings, the candidates are advised to set aside approximately one day a week in average for the course. The group meetings combine lectures with problem based learning and are conducted by persons with PhD or similar research experience.
