Economic Evaluation in Health Care

Students will learn about fundamental models of economic evaluation, including cost-effect and cost-benefit analysis. The focus of the course is on how one defines and calculates costs; i.e. marginal vs average costs, type of costs included, how to value costs, how to discount future costs, and how to deal with uncertainty. The course also touches upon fundamental methods for the measurement of health effects and health related quality of life (QALYs).
The course is designed for students who wish to perform an economic evaluation or students who wish to be able to read and interpret the literatures in this field.

After completing KLH3012, the student:
- Can read and assess economic evaluations
- Can plan and participate in practical economic evaluations of health care interventions
- Can describe and discuss similarities and differences between different types of economic evaluations
- Can identify and measure different types of health care costs relevant for an economic evaluation
- Can discuss the use of health related quality of life scales in economic evaluation

Lectures and group sessions. The lectures will take place the weeks the master program of Clinical health science has intensive education. The subject will only be offered if enough students register. Compulsory assignments: Student must be present at lectures.
