Preventive Medicine and Screening

The course introduces the principles for preventive action both on individual and group levels. The teaching is concentrated on how the efficacy and the effectiveness of the actions could be studied and especially design, other than randomized studies, of evaluations of intervention on groups and population would be emphasized. The prerequisites of screenings program (and of systematic case-findings) and how to evaluate such programs will be introduced

After completing KLH3011, the student:
- Should discuss and be familiar with the application of primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary prevention, and know of the prerequisites and the side effects of measures on different levels
- Should discuss and be familiar with the fundamental epidemiological and experimental study designs which are relevant for evaluation and research on preventive medisin on all levels
- Should discuss and be familiar with the fundamental principles for statistical analyses applied in the evaluation of preventive measures
- Should find, read and interpret scientific literature on evaluation of preventive measures to answer questions on preventive measures within the current professional subject

Lectures, essays and group work. The lectures will take place the weeks the master program of Clinical health science has intensive education. The subject will only be offered if enough students register.
