Introduction to Health Economics

The course will provide an overview over basic health economic terms and principles. Themes covered are:
- Organization and financing of the health care system
- How to measure costs in the health care sector
- Different types of costs and their use in the health care sector
- Measuring health improvements
- A short introduction to economic evaluation
- Measurment of efficiency and productivity

Themes will be illustrated with examples from the Norwegian health care sector.

After completing KLH3000, the student:
- Can assess and discuss different models for organizing a health care system
- Can assess and discuss analyses of health care productivity and efficiency
- Can read and understand simple economic evaluations of health care interventions
- Can participate in economic evaluations of health care interventions
- Can distinguish between different types of costs

Lectures and excersises. Excersises with relevance for the health care sector will be an important part of the course.
