Bachelor's Thesis in Classical Studies

The bachelor thesis is a written piece of work on a Greek or Latin text either in the original language (Classics), or in translation (Ancient civilization) that is chosen under the guidance of a supervisor. The Classics thesis should include a translation of the text that is chosen. Both theses should make use of the commentary tradition that belongs to the chosen text in question, if it exists.

Alternatively, it is possible to describe a document in Latin or Greek at the Gunnerus-library, chosen under the guidance of a supervisor.

A final option is the possibility of work experience placement under the guidance of a supervisor.

Students are expected to have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge

• The student should acquire good knowledge of the chosen text from the point of view of methods and scholarly tools belonging to the studies of Classics and Ancient civilization

Skills

• The student knows how to acquire knowledge about the commentary-tradition of a chosen text, where it exists
• The student is able to describe central problems, assess different arguments and draw well founded conclusions according to the scholarly tradition of Classics and Ancient civilization
