Japanese 2

The course gives a further introduction to Japanese language based on JAP0501 with emphasis on pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary in order to communicate in everyday situations. It also presents aspects of Japanese culture and society through texts and conversations. Students planning to study in Japan are encouraged to take this course.

Knowledge

Candidates who have passed this course

• know approximately 100 Kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese).
• know approximately 600 Japanese words.
• have basic knowledge of the structure of Japanese sentences.
• have basic knowledge of Japanese pronunciation and intonation.
• have basic knowledge of central aspects of Japanese culture related to vocabulary.

Skills

Candidates who have passed this course

• can read and write simple texts such as letters and e-mails where Japanese characters and Kanji are used.
• can understand Japanese spoken clearly and more slowly than normal speed.
• are able to have simple conversations about their own thoughts, feelings and opinions.
• are able to distinguish between formal and informal expressions, and use appropriate expressions in various contexts.

General competence

Candidates who have passed this course

• have basic insight into Japanese language and culture at the beginner level.
• can understand and use basic Japanese language in everyday life.
