IT, Organization and Cooperation in Healthcare

The course aims for practical and analytical insight into the challenges facing the realization of multidisciplinary collaboration and cooperation in healthcare.

The course explores chosen reported experiences related to use, introduction and widespread implementation of digitalization in healthcare. Both primary and secondary care are addressed. In focus are the challenges, in practice, of achieving improved quality and efficiency.

Explored in particular is the issue of scale, as in the difficulties of expansion and moving on from pilots and local solutions.

As part of the teaching seminars there will be groupwork, plenary discussions and lectures. Everyone is encouraged to familiarize themselves with the curriculum before the seminars. An absolute minimum is to have read the first article of the given main topics. Mandatory participation in the seminars (exemptions might be made based on application). The course may be taken as a standalone course or as part of the Master program in health informatics.

Knowledge

A student that completes the course should have:

• In depth knowledge and understanding of how the particulars of the health care sector affects implementation, use and widespread adoption of ehealth technology
• Basic knowledge of relevant experience from the implementation of different IT solutions in the health sector
• Insight into public and political plans, strategies and initiatives regarding the goals and role of information technology in healthcare
• Deep knowledge within one special field of interest related to active research, including the disciplinary ability to put to use novel research results.

Skills

• Fair skills for being a competent and demanding customer in projects of acquisition, implementation, and development of information technology in the health sector
• Basic skills in utilizing available information sources to access relevant research

General knowledge

A student that completes the course should have:

• In depth competence for written and oral communication on professional issues and solutions both within and outside the healthcare sector
• In depth competence for renewal and adjusting of professional insight, including expanding your professional competence on your own
• Basic competence in understanding the role and consequences of information technology in healthcare
