Computers in Education

The subject deals primarily with the use of computers as tools in other subjects. Use of standard applications, specific pedagogical tools and use of internet technologies will be discussed.
An introduction to user interface theories that can be relevant for evaluation of software for learning will be given.
The focus will be on creative use of computers where pupils use software tools to express ideas, for instance use of video, sound, music etc... As a result of this there will be given an introduction to multimedia technologies.
It is primarily use of computers in primary and secondary schools that will be discussed.

Knowledge:
The candidate will get knowledge on:
- The difference between an objectivistic and constructivistic approach to learning
- Basic user interface theories
- Different types of software
- Basic multimedia technologies
- Internet technologies that are relevant for learning

Skills
The candidate will be skilled on:
- Evaluate use of different types of software according to learning goals
- Find relevant software and network ressources
- Describe a learning environment where ICT plays a central role

General competence:
The candidate will:
- get a general overview of the subject and get an understanding of its complexity.
- get an overview of relevant software and network resources relevant for learning with ICT

Lectures. The students will do small projects and 1 semester project. They will count as 40% of the evaluation.
