Reflecting Processes

The course is an introduction to reflective processes. It has a clear goal of developing both attitudinal and action competence for use in practice. The course will include an overview of different theoretical perspectives on reflective processes and different approaches that can be used in both peer guidance, preventive and rehabilitative work. Through reflective processes, people in vulnerable life situations can experience being heard and understood and get an entry point to get in touch with their own language and their own thinking. Reflective conversations have proven to be a useful approach for many.

Topics that are highlighted in the course:

• the theoretical basis for reflective processes

• reflective team

• ethics

• application of reflective conversations individually

• how to relate to different topics that are brought up in conversations

• interdisciplinary collaboration

• power, agency and empowerment

• practice of reflective processes aimed at groups and use of "Tenk ut!"

• social context

Knowledge - After completing the course, the participant can/should:

• have advanced knowledge within reflective processes.
• have specialized insight into reflective conversations with individuals and reflective teams.
• have in-depth knowledge of the theoretical basis for reflective processes.
• have in-depth knowledge of the context people in the correctional service live under.

Skills - After completing the course, the participant can/should:

• master and conduct reflective conversations with individuals, families and groups.
• analyze and relate critically to different information that emerges in the work and use these to structure and formulate professional arguments.

General competence - After completing the course, the participant can/should:

• analyze various professional and ethical issues related to the implementation of reflective conversations, reflection groups and reflective teams.

The learning methods in the course consist of lectures and group work.

Various teaching approaches are discussed and tested through exercises and skills training. It is expected that course participants applies the knowledge in the practical field between sessions and discuss theory and experiences in groups established during the course.
