About this course

Content

Fundamental principles for the numerical approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations. Finite volume method (FVM), pressure-velocity coupling, steady and transient flows, multi-phase flow, laminar and turbulent flows, meshing techniques, dynamic mesh methods, convergence analysis

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: After having passed the exam of the subject the student should know the methodology and main principles of computational fluid dynamics: general equations, methods of solutions, characteristics of different mesh types, turbulence models. Skills: The student should be able to carry out any flow simulation using necessary guides and books as well as understand and interpret the results. General Competence: The student can simulate any case independently and master terminology of the field as well as analyze relevant academic, professional and research solution of a flow.

Teaching methods

Classroom lectures; Guided training in the use of CFD software (StarCCM+); Homework assignments;
