About this course

Content

- Overview over offshore oil and gas production. Exploration, Seabed survey, drilling, field development and production.
- Processing of oil and gas: Separation of oil/condensate/water and gas. Gas treatment;Hydrate and Hydrate Inhibitors. Gas Dehydration. Natural and Artificially lift. Product Spesifications. Solutions for Subsea Production. Multiphase transport.
- Installation of subsea equipment
- Operation and maintenance of subsea equipment
- Fibre-reinforced plastics
- Materials for sandwich constructions and buoyancy

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:
- Give an overview of the various phases in the development of an offshore oil or gas field. (i.e. exploration, field development, processing and transport of oil and gas).
- Give an overview of the most important maritime operations necessary in the development of an offshore oil and gas field (i.e. installation of subsea modules, pipe laying, moving of floating platforms).
- Define the mechanical properties of various materials and relevant methods to determine these
- Name various ways preparation methods for plastic materials and composites

Application:
- Doing rough estimates for capasities and dimensions of pipelines, heat exchangers and and pressure vessels, for example separators; additionally power consumption for compressors and pumps.
- Doing rough estimates of various installation methods (e.g. offshore lifting operations or pipe laying operations).
- Design, analyse and prepare structural components made by composite materials

Competence:
- Plan and document a typical maritime operation (e.g. an installation of a subsea module using an offshore lifting operation).
- Describe fundamental theories and critical issues important for the development and operation of offshore installations for oil and gas production.
- Explain the importance of transport of oil and gas from reservoir to the commercial end product.
- Evaluate structural materials for use in subsea modules, subject to changing environmental loading (pressure, temperature and chemical substances).
- Discuss views and experience with using composite materials in the design of subsea equipment
