Content

- Perspektiver på medienes rolle i samfunnet.
- Mediepolitikk og politisk kommunikasjon.

- Strukturer og sjangrer i analoge og digitale medier.

- Tegn, koder og tolkning.
- Medievitenskapelige metoder.
- Valg og vurdering i forskningsprosessen.
- Etisk kildebruk.
- Akademisk skriving og rapportering.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should gain subsequent knowledge and skills:

- The student can explain central social, technological and content trends in media. Not only should students account for typical structures and genres of media, they should demonstrate a critical and thoughtful understanding of central theories and concepts related to modern information technology and digital media.

- Students can explain key concepts in communication research methods and design a research project. They should be able to formulate research questions and use qualitative and quantitative methods to answer these.

- The student should know standards for scientific research.

- Students should know the research process; find and reference existing literature, advance research questions, collect data and present findings in a comprehensive research paper.

- Students will report according to scientific and academic standards, additionally, learn of tools that assist in formatting the reports.
