Acid-base-titration: pH-calculations, titration curves, mass-balance, charge-balance and proton-balance, indicators, log-log-diagram for acid-base-system, buffer capacity. Gravimetry, precipitation titration and complexometric titrations. Electrochemical methods: potentiometry, voltammetry. Spectroscopy: electromagnetic radiation, absorption and emission. UV-VIS spectroscopy. Molecular fluorescence spectroscopy. Atom absorption spectrometry (AAS). Mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
Learning outcomes
The candidate is able to:
- describe the principles of basic analytical methods and perform calculations related to quantitative analysis
- use computer tools to construct titration curves and log-log-diagrams for acid-base-systems, and use them to find relevant properties
- prepare, perform, document and report results from different chemical analytical methods
- perform quantitative analysis independently and accurate, and evaluate the uncertainty of the results
Teaching methods
Lectures, exercises and laboratory work with compulsory attendance and report submissions. Expected scope: Lectures: 60 hours, Laboratory work: 60 hours. Exercises: 20 hours. Self-study: 60 hours
