Engineering systems and systems development

The objective of the course is to prepare the coming engineer on processes, roles and responsibilities in professional life. Key topics of the subject are
- Project planning and management
- Scientific work and report writing
- Technology and society, ethics and environment
- Business models and value chain analysis
- Production systems, logistics and LEAN thinking

Learning outcome - Knowledge:

Candidate has
- basic knowledge of planning and implementation of projects.
- a technical basis for understanding of systems, including business models, value chain analysis and Lean thinking.
- knowledge of sustainable development with regard to economy, environment and society, seen in a life cycle perspective.
- knowledge of the importance of technology for society, and the interaction between different actors across disciplinary and professional boundaries.

Candidate can
- apply scientific knowledge to plan, organize and implement projects.
- use relevant tools to perform system analysis.
- assess various measures in a sustainability and life-cycle perspective with regard to economy, environment and society.
- communicate professional results and make reasoned choices.
- Write a scientific report.

Pedagogiske metoder:

Forelesninger og arbeid med øvingsoppgaver i grupper og i plenum. Faget undervises seminarbasert gjennom semesteret der det settes av dager til samlingene. Det legges stor vekt på praktiske eksempler og øvingsoppgaver tilpasset de ulike studieprogrammene der studentene utfordres innenfor sitt fagområde og på tvers av fagdisipliner. Øvingene utføres i grupper. Gruppene bør være tverrfaglig sammensatt.     

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:

Det gis en øving på hvert tema. Disse er obligatoriske og må godkjennes for å få adgang til eksamen.
